Water Leaks
Water main leaks
A burst water main can sometimes go unnoticed for days, if not weeks, as the leaking water doesn't always show on the surface, such as wet pools appearing in your lawn or garden.
A water leak is often discovered when water pressure changes or a high water bill is received. These are signs that something is going on underground.
Water main leaks can occur for various reasons. Primarily, these leaks are caused by high-velocity water that wears down the internal walls of your pipes, eventually weakening them and forming pinholes that allow high-pressure water to burst out.
If you have a high water bill and suspect your property might have a leak, follow our steps to identify the cause of the increase in your water use. Alternatively, click on the link below to log a job, and our team can investigate it for you.
Older mains may require a full replacement; our team can do this for a great price.
Our team are available 24/7 to assess the issue and make any urgent repairs.
Log a JobDo a leak test
- - Pick a time when you won't use water
- - Locate your water meter and record the current reading
- - Wait 30 minutes
- - Do not run any taps, flush toilets, or use any water-using appliance during this time
- - Re-check your water meter and record the reading
- - Compare the two readings. If the reading has increased, you are likely to have a leak
Check for leaks
If you have a possible leak, your next step is to locate it. Below is a list of obvious places to start your search:
- - Look for any dripping taps
- - Check your toilet, is it continuously flushing?
- - Check your hot water cylinder, is it overflowing onto the roof or into the gully?
- - Check your washing machine & dishwasher connections
- - Look for wet patches in the garden, lawn or driveway
- - Listen for the sound of running water when no taps, hoses or showers are going
who is responsible for your water main pipes?
For both residential and commercial properties, any pipe work on your side of the water meter is your responsibility.
The water meter is where the council network connects to a privately owned network.
It's the property owner's responsiblity to maintain all the pipes, fittings and devices on your side of the meter.
Water main repair costs may include:
leak detection
concrete cutting
excavation and repairs
concrete reinstatement
removal of excess spoil

Testimonials
We have used K&B plumbing on a number of renovations and they have been great to deal with, from John, Nick & Jan right through their team, all professional, friendly and willing to work in with whatever the client wants.
or... we have used K&B plumbing on a number of renovations and quite frankly we cannot believe we still have running water! Nick was possibly born with a box of Heineken under his arm and Jan has shares in Marisco Vineyards the maker of Ned Rose - let's be honest, John basically carries the team!
Thank you so much K&B Plumbing for coming to our rescue when we received an exorbitant water bill, and had no idea we had a leak occurring under our house.
John arrived promptly, organised the leak detectors, and the boys arrived 7.30am the next morning to dig up the concrete path and fix the leak below. I was very impressed with the fast reliable service. Plus when I needed the invoice urgently to seek a credit on the water bill, Jan had it to me prontissimo.
“Since mid to late 1990 I have used K & B Plumbing and I have formed a very strong partnership with K & B Plumbing. They are very knowledgeable, professional, proactive, also I am required to present 2 to 3 quotes to the business K & B Plumbing have always been competitive and I was delighted that they proceeded and completed the work. The quality of workmanship, reliability and trustworthy nature of the staff was also a major consideration.
I have no hesitation in recommending K & B Plumbing and their team for your next plumbing needs”.
THANKS, A MILLION. We were so lucky K&B Plumbing dropped everything and came to our rescue when we had a flood and saved so much more damage happening to our house. They knew what they were doing, and it was sorted pronto.
We then got K&B Plumbing back to fit a sink and plumbing our washing machine in when we renovated. It wasn’t straight forward at all. However, they made it look effortless and had an excellent solution for our layout.
Prompt, reliable service with experienced plumbers is what you get with K&B Plumbing at a reasonable price.
